So finally Nischal, Manoj, Kislay, Ajay, Amrita and myself, volunteers of Child Rights & You (CRY), Bangalore East PAG; conducted our second session as part of Learning through Arts, a program by ArtSparks in collaboration with CRY. Day 2: 5th December 2015 Picking up from super Hero :D/ inspirational Hero, we could explain who an inspirational Hero is? One of us quoted mother as example. Taking this as an example we asked our kids to names their heros. I know you are curious to know these stories but I better leave the suspense to the end. Now that we have decided our hero, it was time to revise the previous class. So it was STANDING LINESSSS, SLEEPING LINESSS, ZIG-ZAG LINES (well they just learnt that it was same as mountain lines from previous class), CAARCLE, SQUUAREE, RECTAANGLE, OVAL. Goal: Visualizing and Sketching Hero Character. Starting with our session's goals, I took inputs from kids and drew my hero. Learning from previous session's mistak...

Learning through Arts - Day1

Image
Hey everyone! My name is Sudeshna Pal. I am a software engineer based in Bengaluru who works from Monday to Friday. I am a simple Indian girl, who loves playing, talking and growing with kids. I have been volunteering with Child Rights & You (CRY) since June 2014. I have been a part of many activities conducted by us over a period of past 1 year. We love every moment we spend at Angadwadis and schools which are partnered with CRY. Trust me though we get annoyed & perplexed as to how to control them, their love and affection more than equalizes for everything. Here, I thought I would share my experiences of a 10 day workshop of a simple puppet making program. This program is guided by ArtsSparks Foundation partnered with CRY. We love you Nisha, who is the founder of ArtsSparks Foundation for giving us such elaborate practice sessions before we could qualify giving instructions to children. Day 1: 28th November 2015 We reached the premises of school at 9:30 am. This is a g...

Confession is commitment

What is confession?  Confession is to admit that you did something wrong/illegal.  Confession is not Betrayal, it is commitment to your new life. How many of you visited the popular Facebook confession pages? How many of you actually made confessions in Facebook or to someone in particular? Was there any difference before and after you confessed? If your answer is NOOOOOOO.... or NO or No or no  Well, don't worry about that.  Nobody is perfect. It is OK to make mistakes. But the important part is what you do after you made mistakes? You confess. Yes as simple as that. Admit that you did something wrong and apologize for the same. I understand that it is easy said than done. Come on, let me tell you one story from my childhood. It was 7:55 am and my dad was shouting "come on get ready soon". But, I was still putting on my socks and my mother plaiting my hair. I was only by 8:00 am that I was out of my house :P . My school pra...

Embrace the current season

Embrace the current season: the season that reckoned from the time unnoticed and unperceived. This season watches our busy lives: the hectic IT life, the satisfy girlfriend/boyfriend life. Noticing the amount of negligence it faced, it made sure that we embraced it or at-least observed it. And let me tell you yes we did. We did observe the season when girls in Bangalore said to their lovers on a date: “Dear isn't it so hot, let us leave for the day”. Let me give you some more examples. It was 24 th December 1997. I became 7 years old. The winter was blowing its cold breathe everywhere. It blessed us with no sun and cold storms with blankets and sweaters as the must have and must-wear clothes. My family had planned a birthday party at our house. We had guests coming in those thick jackets looking at their fattest with scarfs covering their faces making identity management crisis. But what mattered for me was how could I present myself. I had my birthday dress, bangles and neckl...

Colors of Life

Red Blue Green Yellow Pink Violet and lot more. This is a never ending list. Each color is associated with a different emotion, taste & feeling which differs from person to person. Everyone is unique. Everyone has their own way of justifying thoughts. The spice in their original thought is because of different shades of a color. The optimal mix of these colors makes a perfect person. But as we all know no one is perfect. Everyone has got their own preferences and tastes. Everyone is right in one way and wrong in another. This unique mix of right and wrong in a person differentiates the intensity and hue of color in a person. We associate white with purity and black with evil. The appropriate mix of all colors gives White. White is like the attainment of highest truth. We make our journey through various colors. Journey through every color is important as the mix of all colors only makes a white. Every dark and every light shade is important to attain white. Endorse...
