Fall Foliage - Day12 #100HappyDays

Image
Happiness is going on a trip/picnic to Long Island's very own Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay. It was organized by GWISE, Graduate Women in Science group. I went with Ankit to Mr. Coe's estate or Planting Fields Arboretum. Mr Coe lived in this estate around 1913. It is a huge garden with horticulture and plants. It felt like Cubbon Park of Bangalore in Long Island. It was a beautiful day with Fall colors in a Halloween season or the pumpkin season for me :P. I think pictures are a better way to describe my trip. Cheers to some awesome pictures we clicked.

Grading Midterm - Day 11 - #100HappyDays

Image
Happiness is trying something new. I graded midterm papers of an undergraduate Database class. It was fun. It was Tarun's work. I helped him out. I had to correct questions 4,5,6. They were ER diagram, SQL query and definition of theta join, equi-join  and natural join. It was total of 108 papers. Journey through first one-third was jittery. Got lost in their ER diagrams. After that got the hang of correcting the answers. Then exchanged papers with Shouvik, TA with databases. Also did totaling of remaining two-thirds. Over-all it was fun being on the other side of grading. A happy red pen holder correcting papers. Two-third set of mid-term papers

Sugar Skull Painting - Day 10 - #100HappyDays

Image
Happiness is painting after I think 7 years. It was part of an event by SBU Creative Arts. It really felt accomplished. I tried acrylic paints for the first time. It was awesome and different. Couldn't figure out how to get uniform color over an area then figured out its thickness and texture. It was awesome. Loved acrylic painting. Final look and brightness is I think better than poster colors and watercolors. Yeah I understand every type of paint is for different use. But, in my opinion, acrylic paintings would last long and overall the painting looks brighter. So, lets see how does my sugar skull painting look? Sugar Skull hanging on my apartment wall. This is the room where I painted. All set with required materials. Thanks to SBU Creative Arts. This is how I started. My first few strokes with acrylic. Yes did it. After 2.5 hours of playing with acrylic paints. Meee... Happy me posing with my sugar skull :) :) :)

Petition Approved - Day 9 #100HappyDays

Image
Happiness is when your petition is approved for the course swap and you get your refund in your bank account. I had completely given up that I would get any kind of refund. But I thought why not just file a petition. So I sent a mail to www.studentbilling.com explaining why did I get a fine. Today I got 1080 dollars I paid refunded to my account. Yipiee :)

Latin Dance - Day 8 #100HappyDays

Image
Yes, it is always a perfect happy day when you get to dance. Tried something new, Latin dance it was. It felt like Salsa for me and I also understand that there must be differences. I love to dance. Though not good at doing at girly kinda moves but I am learning. Best part was when a trained professional ball dancer told me you have danced before. His name was Jamie. He was too good. My first learning step was with him. It was a sheer coincidence. I also danced with several people after learning a few steps, most of them were trained ball room dancers. I could follow their steps and their lead. It was awesome. Next time no spectacles. Only lenses <angry>. Finally, my favorite was the last dance with Jamie. I can never ever forget that. I wish I could get the video. Anyway, I got the picture. #DanceIsLife

Matrimonial Picture - Day7 #HappyDays

Image
Happiness is when you go for a head-shot photo in the CS department and finally get a high resolution picture. Frankly I didn't like it but Aashu liked it! :P Still learning which picture looks good and which doesn't, which human being is beautiful and which isn't it. My god, when will I learn all these. Actually, do I really want to? Answer is no, not really. Well, here are the two high resolution pictures with filters. :P How I wish I wore something formal rather than a t-shirt. Time to go shopping. And dumb girl, check yourself out before you leave home. Definitely that is not a t-shirt bra. grrr <angry>. Anyway here it is.

Day 6 #100HappyDays

Happiness is finally seeing a revised salary. Yuhu 4000 dollar increase in base and significant increase in bonus.

Day 5 #100HappyDays

Happiness is finally finishing an assignment and submitting into Blackboard. After all I am a Master's student, nothing gives more happiness than finishing assignments and acing exams. So, it was the third assignment of Computer Vision course I took in my last semester. I created Panoramas. It was interesting. These are my input images. I have created two types of panoramas. The panoramas are differentiated on the basis of the image stitching. I have implemented panoramas with Perspective warping and cylindrical warping. Below are the results of the given input images. Perspective Warping Cylindrical Warping

Day 4 #100HappyDays

Happiness is going to Fire Safety drill at Chapin and end up talking to Debanjan for 1.5 hours in cold. Not to forget, drill was also fun. Initially there was small talk about the fire safety instruction. The list of do's and don'ts in case of fire. Then we got experience our mini Diwali on field. First we got to try the fire extinguisher, though it just had water. Everyone got to sprinkle that water from fire extinguisher on the burning stove. Yippee, even I did it.  Some random guy trying to extinguish fire with a fire extinguisher filled with water. Then, we got to see our mini Diwali, where the fire marshal tried to extinguish a burning stove similar to that in our apartment. Here, I created my first GIF using Google Photos. :P Here, the fire marshals burn the pans in the stove and in the oven and try to extinguish it. Finally, our badi Diwali. Here the fire marshals had two different sofas in the demo rooms. One sofa was that in our apartment, while the other w

Happiness is finally feeling fresh after 7-8 days of bloating. Fed of pimples and pumped up stomach, today was the best of my life. #HappyStomach day. Just when I thought my day ended on a happy note, I found out my host family mentor at Stony Brook passed away. He was the Vice President of Student affairs. I met him once at his office. He had lots of books at his office. He was very knowledgeable and was interesting to talk to. Rest In Peace Dr. Peter Baignet. Dr. Peter Baignet
